Mont Ambassador: Eric Philips

Eric Philips OAM has been a professional polar adventurer and guide since 1993. Specialising in minimalist expeditions to the polar regions, where he pioneered innovative methods of travel incorporating skis, kites and kayaks, Eric has completed numerous ski expeditions to both the North and South Poles, to Greenland, Iceland, Svalbard, the Canadian Arctic and Patagonia. He has travelled to Antarctica by plane, ship and yacht, leaving from every gateway port; Hobart, Christchurch, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia and Cape Town.

Eric is the President of the International Polar Guides Association and has worked in the polar regions with numerous organisations and charities including the Australian Antarctic Division, Geelong Grammar School, Greenpeace, Pole to Pole Run and Walking with the Wounded. Eric’s expeditions have produced four documentary films, including the Emmy Award-winning Greenland film, Chasing the Midnight Sun, and is the author of Icetrek. The Bitter Journey to the South Pole. Eric lives in Hobart, with his wife, Susy, daughter, Mardi and son, Kip. He is the owner and director of Icetrek Expeditions.
