  • The Thunderbolt is a new direction in Mont hard shell technology and is the most breathable wind proof garment that we make. Designed with alpine sports in mind every feature on this new garment has been conceived to optimize performance minimise weight and improve comfort. Features such as WR zips for the front zip and underarm zips remove the need for bulky fabric flap covers. A high storm collar and multi point adjustable hood keeps you protected from cold blasts. Hydronaute 3S fabric offers outstanding breathability and the laminated brushed lining provides additional thermal protection when the temperature plummets. Currently the garment of choice for the Mont team who are ripping up the mountains in Europe and Japan.

Best ski jacket!

05 August 2014

Having used this a couple of times now back country skiing, it has become my favourite! One jacket that does all.
Awesome hood and collar coverage when its freezing and windy.
Taking this to Japan this coming season.

Perfect Resort Skiing Jacket

06 July 2015

Cant fault this Jacket for what I bought it for. Great hood and high collar. Large chest/Hand pockets in comfy position. Durable shell fabric. Great Shoulder mobility. Room for a Puffy underneath. Lift pass pocket on L shoulder. Cozy brushed internal surface.
A little heavier than I like for backcountry but would certainly be functional
Haven't tested its rainproofness compared to my Goretex/Event Jackets but its fantastic shedding snow and keeping the wind out.
Note: hood does not stow away in collar but would probably make the collar uncomfortably bulky were it designed that way. Folds in OK to keep snow out when wearing Helmet.

sturdy jacket

18 July 2015

I've had this jacket for a year now. After many years of lightweight jackets it's nice to be in a solid-feeling jacket that gives great protection from not only the elements but the Tassie bush. Just returned from 3 days in the mountains and as is often the case in Tasmania, I never took it off (OK, I didn't sleep in it!). Great jacket, thanks Mont.

Bright Red Thunderbolt now my favourite jacket

09 May 2016

I recently took a Thunderbolt jacket to Niseko in Japan for 10 days skiing in February.
Typical -5 to -10 temperatures with some wind and was delighted with jacket.
Wore a long sleeve thermal top and Mont micro fleece shirt. Perfect combination for skiing hard but not freezing when you stop.
To follow up I wore the jacket in some cold, wet weather fishing at Eucumbene.
I have had a number of Goretex jackets over the years and have to say that the Hydronaute layer in the Thunderbolt is as good or better.
It has become my number one for durability, wind and rain protection.
Not the lightest in my collection for long bush walks but unbeatable performance for everything else. Great cut and style. Great hood. Excellent breathability. Cant fault it.
