A fast and light pack, the Sentinel Backpack is the ideal size for lightweight overnighters or weekend walks. It is also an appropriate size for some of the world's classic walks like the Kokoda Track or Camino Trail.
The Sentinel Backpack is fitted with a SoloLite Harness with a lightweight but supportive hip belt, contoured shoulder straps and dual hollow-form aluminium stays.
Non-moisture wicking V-Ridge Foam on the back panel allows air movement to keep you cooler and dryer and HDPE sheet behind the V-Ridge foam keeps the pack smooth against your back. Combined with multiple adjustment points on the shoulders and hips the Sentinel's harness is comfortable and very supportive, appropriate for medium weight loads.
The Sentinel has versatile pockets so you can arrange your load just how you like. A large Nylon storm throat with dual single-pull drawcords covers the main compartment. The lid, with zippered pockets on the inside and outside, covers the storm throat and quick release clips at the front and rear allow the lid to be extended and even removed for extra packing space. On the front of the pack is a large Polyspan stretch pocket for maps, jumpers or snacks, and on each side are Polyspan bottle holders.
As with almost all Mont backpacks, the Sentinel Pack is water bladder compatible with a bladder pocket inside the main compartment and a bladder hose port above the backpanel that leads the hose to loops on either shoulder strap.
The Mont Sentinel Pack is made from DR80 rip-stop Canvas, an Australian made fabric. DR80 Canvas is highly water resistant, very durable, highly resistant to abrasion, bacteria and UV damage.
The Sentinel is available in two back lengths (42L & 45L) depending on your height. For those with a back length of about 40 to 50cm we suggest the 42L Sentinel. For those with a back length of 50 to 60cm or thereabouts we suggest the 45L Sentinel. Your back length is from your C7 vertebra down your spine to the point level with the top if your iliac crest.

Just got my pack in the mail last week. Took it out on the trail this weekend and it was awesome! My first ever canvas pack and I am loving it. And I can tell this thing is gonna last years.

I bought the Sentinel as an all-purpose minimalist pack for an extended overseas backpacking trip. I travel light, and for over two months, everything I own has been in this thing. I've been using it on and off motorbikes, pushbikes, hiking and even on horseback, everything from hostel hopping to wilderness hiking.
With packs these days becoming more and more convoluted and complex, it's been a massive boon to have something that's robust, simple and effective. The big single compartment and well-placed compression straps mean you can really fit a lot in for 45L, and yet you can still sneak it on a plane as carry-on luggage. The backpanel breathes and the harness is quite comfortable (so far used with loads under 15kg), even when worn riding a motorbike. The canvas shell has kept out tropical-grade thunderstorms and is substantially more durable than the wispy nylon used in other lightweight packs. It's generally very well designed and if you know how to travel light, ideal for long-term travel. I intend to continue using it.
