If you want to stay warm in Canberra this winter, talk to Mont. That's what Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart did, and this weekend he and his coaching staff are gonna be the warmest, and fingers crossed best, on-field. Go Raiders!
“Icelantic is committed to making skis that are built to last. Proudly hand-crafted in Denver, Colorado by people we know and trust at the Never Summer Industries Factory, all of our products are made with the highest quality materials and standards. Working with domestic partners not only supports our local economy, but also allows us to keep a hands-on approach to the manufacturing process. We stand by every product we make, and this is why we offer the industry’s leading 3-year, no-questions-asked Bombproof Warranty on all of our skis; and why we celebrate when we see 12 year old skis in the lift line.”

Doug Chatten, director and lead-guide at Snowy Mountains Backcountry (SMBC), has been skiing the Main Range for over 30 years, using our gear for 25 years, and working in the NSW Snowy Mountains professionally for 20 years. This year Doug, Mont and SMBC are giving you the chance to win a ticket for one of their tours into this incredible Australian landscape!
Over the Anzac weekend the family and I took a walk in the Snowy Mountains. The minus 8ºC overnight tested my Helium 600 sleeping bag, but adding Mont Flashpoint Pants and Zero Down Jacket over Power Dry Silk Weight Thermals I was cozy. The little alpine tarn near our tents froze over to about 2cm thick; starting to look and feel wintry!
A traditional snowboard boot is very comfortable but can leave you wanting when entering the realm of technical terrain! Steep &/or icy surfaces require technical boots; soft boots lack the security & stability offered by hard boots. Whilst full shell hard boots offer ultimate technical dexterity, stability & security, they are not as comfortable as soft boots! The answer for Splitboard Mountaineering is a technical yet comfortable boot like the K2 Aspect, Fitwell, Deeluxe or 32Jones MTB. These boots have a full/reinforced shank sole with a soft upper addressing the stiffness & stability issues of soft boots & ride limiting feel of full hard shell boots.
Ultra-Trail Australia (UTA) is only three weeks away! Hopefully, your training is going well, and you're getting excited to start tapering, but that doesn't mean the hard work is over.
Mandatory Gear. Have you got it race-ready? If not, don't worry, there's still time, and we have all the gear to get you across the start line: clothing, bandages, hydration and nutrition, as well as Canberra's most extensive range of trail running shoes and vests!
While the weather report is no longer current, the motivation for a gear shakedown and excitement for what will be a great season is nothing but infectious and too good not to share.
2020/21 Weston Splitboards are available now at Mont online and in-store!
Founded in and operated from snowy Colorado, Weston has been “building bomber snowboards, splitboards & skis, loving Mother Earth, fostering community, supporting important causes, spreading backcountry education, dirt bagging, slaying pow, and chasing freedom since 2012.”
Three weeks ago, I drove up into Tassie’s Central Highlands late at night to visit a dead forest of Cider Gums. Now a dead forest doesn’t sound all that exciting, but the trees that are standing are beautiful in their grotesque and twisted silence. They were the perfect backdrop to an image of the Galactic Core as it quietly floated above the Earth’s horizon.
“After a full day off the beaten track exploring the rugged terrain on the Main Range, we decided to call it a day. Only 50 metres below the summit of Mount Townsend we settled down for the evening and watched the sun set over the beautiful Western Faces. As the day died and nightfall began, we watched the Milky Way pass over us as we sat isolated on the roof of Australia.”
Just landed at Mont: the new La Sportiva Karacal Trail Running Shoe in Men's and Women's.
The Karacal is a trail running shoe for training over medium and long distances. Because of its exceptional fit and high breathability it is especially good for post-race recovery.
