TENT REPAIR GUIDE

Step by step instructions on how to repair your tent

RESTRING YOUR POLES

After extended use the shock cord inside your poles can stretch and need replacing. The good news is it is really easy and only takes 15-20 mins.

YOU WILL NEED

  • 6 meters of 3mm shock cord
  • String
  •  Needle nose pilers
  •  Scissors
  • Lighter

CUT THE SECTIONS

MIDDLE / SPINE SECTION

Run the cord from hub to hub and cut.

Leg Sections

Run the cord from tip to hub and back to other tip and cut.

Ridge Pole section

Run the cord from tip to tip and cut.

Prepare the cut section by matching the elastic up with the correct sections

  • The length of elastic will follow the entire section from tip to the hub to tip (leg sections), or hub to hub (middle/spine section), or tip to tip (ridge section).
  • The elastic will reach without the need to be stretched.
  • Leg sections run back to their adjacent leg.

Rethreading

Middle / Spine section

  1. On the main (middle/spine) section of poles, separate the poles from the hub. Pinch the elastic in-between the hub and the poles. Push some slack in the elastic towards the hub. You should see a black clip emerge.
  2. Grab the black clip out of the hub using tweezers or another tool. Separate the black clip and pull the elastic through the hub being careful not to lose the black clip.
  3. Rethread the new elastic into one hub tying a loop and reattaching the black clip.
  4. Pull the rest of the elastic through the pole sections and the other hub, tying another knot and attaching the other black clip. Use a piece of string to help pull the elastic through the pole sections and hub.

Leg Sections

  1. On both of the legs select the silver metal tip, twist, and pull to remove the tip. Unhook elastic from the tip and pull through the hub. Keep pole sections in order.
  2. Tie a slip knot at the end of the elastic and attach it to one of the tent pole tips.
  3. Thread the other end of the elastic through the pole sections and the hub. Use a piece of string to help pull the elastic through the pole sections and hub.
  4. Attach the other pole tip to the loop in the elastic and connect back to the pole piece.
  5. Repeat for other sides leg section.

Ridge Pole section

  1. On both of the tips select the silver metal tip, twist, and pull to remove the tip. Unhook elastic from the tip and pull through the hub. Keep pole sections in order.
  2. Tie a slip knot at the end of the elastic and attach it to one of the tent pole tips.
  3. Thread the other end of the elastic through the pole sections. Use a piece of string to help pull the elastic through the pole sections.
  4. Attach the other pole tip to the loop in the elastic and connect back to the pole piece.

TIP

Perfect tension of the shock cord is when the poles connect together with minimum effort from you. The slip knot will allow you to easily adjust the tension.
