Ultimate Direction have released new running vests and belts, bringing their women’s selection in line with the men’s. Highlights include the Women’s Adventure Vesta and Mountain Vesta, new running vests with more storage than the Ultra Vesta (8L) and a different pocket configuration including a removable beacon pocket for safety and for more gear on longer runs. These are a great alternative fit to the Salomon Advanced Skin 12 litre for 50 or 100km races where you need to carry mandatory gear.

I had brought my Mont Helium 680 with me. A luxurious bag rated to -12°C for warm sleepers, it is perfectly suited to Tasmania’s cooler months. Ice crusted the ground and tent the next morning and checking my temperature sensor I was surprised to see that the temperature had dropped to -7.7°C overnight. That is remarkably cool for late October in Tassie!
