Measurements refer to body size not garment dimensions. Wearing ease alters depending on style and fabric.
Chest: Take measurement around the fullest part of the chest, just under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
Sleeve: With elbow bent, measure from centre back of neck (at C7 vertebra) to elbow and down to prominent outside wrist bone.
Waist: Measure around the smallest part of your waist (natural waistline).
Inseam: Measure a pair of well fitting pants from crotch to bottom of leg.
Tried and tested. The Austral is a traditional, all-purpose 3/4 length bushwalking rain jacket that is equally practical as an around town or travel jacket.
Featuring a three piece storm hood with multi point adjustments, a triple storm flap system to protect the front zip from down pours and a waist draw-cord adjustment that is neatly concealed away in the lower front pockets reducing potential snag points.
Tested in the worst imaginable conditions, the mid-weight Hydronaute 3 layer fabric offers outstanding breathability and waterproofness while being durable enough to withstand the long-term use of heavy backpacks. Hydronaute fabric also has high pin-hole resistance making it an ideal choice for bushwalking.
High Performance Fabric Technology. Hydronaute's high performance waterproof, highly breathable and windproof technology guarantees protection in all conditions. The combination of new-age face fabrics with innovative laminate technology means superior weather protection and exceptional comfort.
Face Fabric Selection: The face fabric is a crucial factor in the performance of Mont Hydronaute garments. It provides the durability, breathability and feel of Hydronaute. Our access to the most advanced face fabrics means that Mont outerwear is technically superior to previously used fabric technologies. In particular, the face fabric in our bushwalking range has increased abrasion resistance, tear strength and pinhole resistance.
I have owned this jacket for some time and it is a gun! Waterproof in the bush in heavy rain, comfortable and durable. In the wilderness, staying dry is paramount and that security is worth paying for.
I've had my Austral for 5 years now - it's seen some horrific conditions and is still going strong. I nearly always hunt for discounts but this is one item I paid full price and have no regrets. The 3/4 length is something a lot more manufacturers should do. Functionality wise the pockets are perfect, zippers and drawstrings all work very well. I only wish they'd done the Olive when I bought (I have Marlin). I live in West Australia and have used the jacket in humid and very cold conditions - breath-ability is excellent.
Have been eyeing this jacket for ages and just pulled the trigger on the purchase - I was not disappointed! Very well made, functional hip length jacket with well thought out simple features. Made from very durable material with an adjustable hood, 2 large Velcro closing front pockets and a zip chest pocket. Material breathes well and I like available colour range and the subtle labels and distinct lack of annoying loud logos present on competitors jacket designs. Have only used in urban settings so far and performing well in wind and rainy conditions, looking forward to field testing soon.
The jacket came quickly was well packaged and was a perfect fit keeps rain out in any condition and is so comfortable
best raincoat i have owned for hiking in the australian bush. I have walked with people wearing all sorts of other brands and none hold up to the rigors of aussie vegetation like the austral. I have been quite comfortable in this jacket in conditions ranging from drizzle to blizzard. nice big pockets to protect your hands and a surprisingly water resistant chest pocket make it easier to spend long period of time in this jacket.
