The title of keenest climber at Mont will be hotly debated, but David (pictured above on Tassie's iconic Totem Pole) and Byron are two close contenders: highly experienced with a wealth of technical knowledge. With DMM chalking up 40 years in business, David and Byron imbue their knowledge and love of three DMM pieces with significant points of difference over other brand equivalents: the DMM Revolver Carabiner, Chimera 60cm Quickdraw and Offset Nuts.
The DMM Revolver Carabiner: “I used two of them on a recent climbing project where rope drag was an issue due to zig-zagging. It is a lightweight, full-strength carabiner with an in-built pulley. Although there is speculation about how much the in-built pulley rotates under a heavy load (compared to a normal carabiner), there is no denying it is a game-changer when used to manage rope drag on long and traversing rock climbing routes. I use the wiregate version, typically attached to a sling where there will be a sharp bend in the rope direction - the pulley tremendously reduces friction as the rope runs through whilst climbing. David”
The DMM Chimera 60cm Quickdraw: “The Chimera is an ultralight and versatile tool for use in extending/clipping your cams or stoppers during traditional climbing. It can extend the piece by the length of a typical quickdraw or by the full length of the 60cm sling. Having gear like this is vital because many placements need extending to reduce rope drag, and this one saves weight on your rack. Byron”
The DMM Offset Nuts: “They work perfectly in flared as well as standard placements. I now seem to place offsets more often than regular nuts - the gold one is my favourite size and I find I place it a lot. It is called Goldilocks and I've probably placed it as much as the rest of my rack of nuts combined. David”
The photo: “The iconic Totem Pole in Fortescue bay, Tassie. The swell forecast was not ideal that day but it was the best opportunity we had during our trip to climb it, we got hit by some freezing waves, which turned our chalk to paste and numbed our fingers! But the best climb I've ever been on, would love to go back someday. David”

If you are ready to adventure beyond the well-travelled slopes and take your adventuring to the next level, Mont Adventure Equipment is here with a guide to help you get started with the right equipment.

After the western light had faded I got my camera out and planned on doing a little astro photography. Pleasantly, my first image showed a cheery red and green glow to the south. The Southern Lights were active!
