It needn’t be an epic location to be an epic trip....

Last week I walked to a nice location in the mountains. Not a particularly spectacular spot but definitely a very pleasant one.

The day had been totally cloudless and that continued into the night with the Milky Way sparkling brightly overhead.

After the western light had faded I got my camera out and planned on doing a little astro photography. Pleasantly, my first image showed a cheery red and green glow to the south. The Southern Lights were active!

I spent a few hours capturing the spectacle as best I could and then slipped into myMont Moondance 1 FN tent for some sleep. This time I had brought myZero Superlightsleeping bag rated to 2°C. This was a marginal decision as the temperature dropped to just below zero overnight but I slept ok.

The morning was equally enchanting with perfect reflections on a nearby tarn and mist drifting lazily across the landscape, coating the spiderwebs in dew and creating beautiful lighting.

Still under a cloudless sky, I packed up and happily headed for home.

Not an especially epic location but definitely an epic stay :)
