One Jacket with Legendary Status

Written by Kellie Floyd

I’ve been on many travel journeys, across various terrain and this has led me to recognise the legendary status a piece of clothing can gain. While the term is typically reserved for legendary football players or a singer who achieves legendary status in the music industry, I have come to include the Mont Icicle Down Jacket in this esteemed category.

In April this year, I ventured into diverse climates during my five-week family trip to Northern Europe. The challenge of finding suitable clothing to accommodate fluctuating temperatures became apparent in preparation for the big trip. As an avid traveller who revels in immersing myself in nature, having the right gear is crucial—especially considering I'm one of those people who always seem to feel the cold! With limited packing space, I needed a jacket capable of providing exceptional warmth at -20 degrees Celsius while ensuring comfort at 10 degrees Celsius too. This is when I discovered the Mont Icicle Down Jacket

Disembarking the plane in Svalbard, a mere 1000 kilometres from the North Pole where polar bears outnumber humans, a gust of frigid air greeted me—a stark contrast to the warmth I had left behind further south. However, as I effortlessly unrolled (it rolls up very small) and slipped on my jacket, it enveloped me in exceptional warmth. Despite the -14 degrees Celsius temperature, I no longer felt the cold's unwelcome embrace, and for our entire time on the archipelago, whether I was hiking in the mountains, dog sledding, or observing walruses by boat, my jacket's down insulation cocooned me from the biting cold. I did not feel cold once. An added benefit was the jacket's roomy pockets which provided a perfect spot to store my gloves while capturing photographs or tucking away my beanie (often, I find other jackets lack pockets of sufficient size).

Beyond its exceptional warmth, I was also impressed by the jacket's adaptability to my ever-changing surroundings. While exploring fjord territory in Southern Norway, I willingly embraced the hours-long snowball fights with my children. Even with heavy snow constantly falling from the sky, the jacket's shell proved waterproof and resistant, shielding me from moisture or dampness.

As I captained our rental boat through Copenhagen's charming canals in Denmark, I required a jacket capable of shielding me from the chilly winds that swept in from the water rather than providing snow or rain protection. This jacket seamlessly adjusted to meet my needs, ensuring comfort as I cruised the waterways and explored the city's streets on foot - I had worried I'd be too hot in this jacket, but I wasn't. I could effortlessly fine-tune the fit, cinching the waist for added warmth or loosening it for a more relaxed feel. Travelling with a young family always entails the risk of wear and tear, yet I felt confident in the durability of this jacket, even when the kids tugged at its sleeves and managed to accidentally drag me into the concrete panels of the Berlin Wall - my jacket remained unscathed.

I feel like a true adventurer in this jacket, ready to take on the world. But, it also effortlessly slips into being a warm companion for those chilly early Sunday mornings spent watching our children's sports activities. It has become an invaluable companion during my travels and everyday life.

If you find yourself searching for a dependable jacket for your own travel escapades or winter mornings closer to home, look no further than the Mont Icicle Down Jacket. It will exceed your expectations and provide unrivalled comfort and versatility.

This jacket sounds amazing! Probably a great Winter wardrobe essential for us Victorians too.

I’m still getting some use out of my original Icicle Jacket from 1999.
I have a newer one but I keep it for much colder situations.
